About Glen Abernethy
Glen was born in the Northwest Territories in 1971 and has lived in Yellowknife since 1978. He currently resides in the Great Slave riding where he has lived since 2001.
Glen attended J.H. Sisson’s Elementary School, William McDonald Jr. High School and Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife. In 1993, he received a Diploma in Business Administration from Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta. Upon completion of his Diploma, Glen returned to Yellowknife and has since worked within the GNWT public service in a variety of capacities.
He has actively participated in leadership roles in community organizations, such as the President of Folk On The Rocks, Commodore of the Great Slave Cruising Club and as a Board Member of the Big Buddies Society of Yellowknife.
Glen has also been a regular supporter of other not for profit organizations through fundraising and volunteering. His work with the Yellowknife Association of Concerned Citizens for Seniors (YACCS) and the NWT Council of Persons with Disabilities has helped create awareness and raise funds for their programs.
Glen was elected as the MLA for the Great Slave riding of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, on October 1, 2007. Within the Legislative Assembly, Glen sits as a member of the Standing Committee on Priorities and Planning, as well as the Standing Committee on Government Operations. He is also the Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Social Programs. During the 16th Assembly’s first sitting in November 2007, Glen was selected as one of two Deputy Chairs of the Committee of the Whole.
Yellowknife is Glen’s home, and as the MLA for the Great Slave riding, he is committed to service with honesty, integrity and dedication to all residents of the riding, Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories as a whole. |
